            Greetings Kylie and Glenn,

Design thinking is critical when considering the equipment, tools, places and spaces which we use.
I touch on this in my workshop and the obligation we have in progressing, innovating and designing for the future.

            Ian Randall

            Kind regards,

            Ian

Thanks Ian, We are looking forward to learning more about your design journey. It is wonderful to have teachers actively designing and sharing their innovation process with others.

Do you find that students are more responsive to your ‘real world’ experience?

                Thanks for posting.

                    Thanks Kylie and Glenn, Absolutely!
It’s like … “what, you can actually change stuff!?
Too often we put up with historical legacy and forget that much of the world we inhabit has actually been made by us. If we’ve created it, we can change it.
However, my experience of bringing a very simple innovation has shown just how hostile we are towards change.
So, I share with my students that they will face resistance.

… I dream of the day when we can foster innovation and champion innovators.

                    Cheers,
                    Ian

Very true Ian. To see innovative change we often need to change behaviours. This might be within a social group, family situation or a work related context, ect.

Hopefully the more we delight our users with our innovative designs the more traction we’ll gain on making impactful changes.

                        Ta, Kylie

Wow. This is a great forum. Can you guys share links to your work. We started using design thinking for education a couple of years ago. But now it is very integrated in all we do. I would love t9 learn from you guys. We are actually training right now 200 teachers on using it in various fields. In particular for STEAM subjects.

                        Hi Rosa,

I love that you are working with teachers around STEAM and integration. I am hosting two forums here (STEM vs STEAM and The Power of Design Thinking). My husband and I are also part of COSPAR-K. Creating and hosting – with industry- the design projects for both Plants vs Mars and Rocket Rescue.

It would be great to connect. Our website is https://splat3d.com/ or Scott has all our details.

I look forward to learning more from you.

                        Ta, Kylie

We have been trying to support educators and families with design thinking activities. Can I ask your opinion on these?:

We are also applying design thinking to create a global science opera about restoration of the ecosystems, so it will be great to learn from your work :-).

Design thinking is a great way to connect students with real world problems and a way of creatively navigating problem solving. We engaged our Year 1 students in the process last year – with some scaffolding as they were quite young and new to the experience. Keen to get into it a bit more with our new year 1s this year.

Looking forward to learning more from this forum.

                                    Hi Fi,

I love Yr 1. Did you see the 90 Design Thinking ‘I can’ statements for primary teachers we released last year?

I would be happy to send them to you. I also worked with some amazing Yr 1 teachers who ran Design Thinking projects through integrated units at an IB school. I’m sure they’d be happy to share.

Do you have a theme this year or a specific outcome(s) you are trying to cover?

                                    Ta, Kylie
