Simon Took, of BlueScope, is the Manager of the Hot Mills department in the Port Kembla Steelworks. The Hot Mills produces over 3 million tonnes of Hot rolled steel products for the building and construction market in Australia.
A graduate of Materials Engineering from the University of Wollongong, Simon has 26 years of experience in the industry across many roles, Simon has relied on his STEM skills throughout his career. From collecting samples of stainless products and examining them under a microscope, to managing a crew on continuous shift work for the safe production of 200 000 tonnes of Colorbond ® annually, to owning the quality outcomes of Colorbond ® steel, Simon has a strong grounding in the fundamentals of manufacturing, quality control and productivity.
