On Demand Video: 8-minute video lectures: lessons from Twitch streamers, YouTubers, and research findings from 6.9 million MOOC views.
(On Demand videos launching Monday 19 April 2021)
In this talk, Dr Alexander Gregg – an early career lecturer at the University of Newcastle –describes his experience adapting a second year engineering course for online delivery in response to COVID-19.
His approach closely followed the recommendations made in a well-cited journal article that analysed 6.9 million MOOC viewing sessions. His videos featured production techniques and styles popular amongst video-game streamers and YouTubers, and were well received by students.
In this talk, viewing analytics and qualitative survey data are analysed and presented, and a framework for educators to utilise these techniques in their own practice is provided.
