    I think the distinction between STEM and STEAM is a blurry one that often gets misconstrued. The inclusion of arts is sometimes considered as a “we’re all underfunded, so lets get funding for STEM and the arts” but that, to me, is a bit of a trap in terms of the objective of grouping STEM under a banner.

    The way I’ve approached the arts in STEAM is about how a problem might be considered, and how solutions often need to be reflective of more than a simple yes or no answer. It helps to engage students with the reality that even in science it’s open to interpretation and requires communication.
